About Alexander Baron-Raiffe
Alexander Baron-Raiffe is a New York State Licensed Psychoanalyst who approaches psychoanalytic theory and practice in a way that closely and sensitively attends to issues of gender, sexuality, race and culture.
Dr. Baron-Raiffe completed the License Qualifying Program at the NY Freudian Society and also completed the Respecialization Program at IPTAR. He is a faculty member at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP) in New York. He also teaches and provides supervision to young clinicians interested in psychoanalytic theory and working psychoanalytically with issues of gender and sexuality alongside Dr. Yukari Yanagino through the Therabridge clinic.
Prior to obtaining the NYS License in Psychoanalysis, Dr. Baron-Raiffe earned a Ph.D. and a M.A. at Princeton University, where he wrote a dissertation relating to the legacy of Plato’s concept of melete thanatou, the attentive contemplation of death, in the work of French philosopher Jacques Derrida, whose work is scaffolded on the discoveries of Sigmund Freud.
Dr. Baron-Raiffe is also a diplomate of the Institut d’Etudes politiques de Paris, in France, where he obtained a Master 2 in Economic Law. He worked in the legal field for several years in Paris before attending Princeton University.
He also holds a B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and a CEFR C1-level Certificate of Proficiency in Modern Greek from the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece.
In his private practice in Manhattan, Dr. Baron-Raiffe works with adults who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, trauma, depression, phobias, obsessional thoughts or repeated patterns of self-defeating behavior. He sees patients in both English and French and has particular experience working with Francophone expatriates and patients of all genders and sexual orientations who may be struggling with these aspects of their lives.
